This course is an introduction to the theory, history and practice of video art. Foundational skills in camera, lighting, sound recording, editing and DVD authoring will be covered. Class time is divided between hands-on workshops, discussion, screenings, and ongoing critique of student work. Students will be expected to demonstrate that they are learning not only how to produce video technically, but how to engage with the form critically and creatively.
Class Format: studio/workshop
Requirements/Evaluation: weekly response papers to video screenings and critical texts, five video production projects.
