Class Details

What is a line? A line can be many things: a scribble, a word, a contour, a vector in a diagram, a nose, a mark to denote one thing from another, a shadow, a means to describe form. This class will explore the basics of how to construct an image through the use of line, one of the simplest gestures of expression there is. The goal of the class is to reevaluate how we see the world, using drawing as our main tool of inquiry. Through a buildup of basic fundamentals of drawing-including composition, value, basic perspective, form, proportion-as well as an examination of past and contemporary artworks, students will develop a basic skill set that will allow them to confidently engage in our oldest means of image-making. This class is primarily aimed at students with little or no prior experience with drawing, but all levels are welcome.
