Teaching modes (remote, hybrid, in-person) are subject to change at any point. Please pay close attention when registering. Depending on the timing of a teaching mode change, faculty also may be in contact with students.
Introduction to the alphabet and language structure with emphasis on communicative skills. Students will receive a foundation in the language being able to hold simple conversations, use a range of vocabulary related to daily activities and transactions, and gain familiarity with basic, frequently used grammatical structures and the writing system of the language.
Format: lecture; twice-weekly review sessions
Expected: 2 - 8
Grading: no pass/fail option,
yes fifth course option
Spoken and written midterm and final exams.
Sophomore or higher standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0; application to the Critical Language Program in early April.
Preference given to application submission during the information-application period in April.
Minimum enrollment of two students in order to schedule the course.
