Class Details

This course is an introduction to the media and processes of sculpture. The focus will be on developing technical and analytical skills as they relate to the interplay of form, content, and materials of sculpture. This section will cover a variety of techniques and processes associated with woodworking as they pertain to sculpture, but isn’t limited to to the media of wood, and in fact a wide variety of media exploration is encouraged and expected. This course is based on a series of sculpture projects which will investigate both formal and conceptual practices involved in creating personal statements in a visual format. A substantial amount of time outside of class is expected to complete these projects.

Limit: 12
Grading: yes pass/fail option, yes fifth course option
Requirements/Evaluation: evaluation will be based on the quality of work produced, depth and quality of investigative process, participation in critiques, and attendance
Prerequisites: ArtS 100
Materials/Lab Fee: lab fee TBD will be added to the student's term bill
