Class Details
This course covers the same topics as Physics 131, but with a higher level of mathematical sophistication. It is intended for students with solid backgrounds in the sciences, either from high school or college, who feel comfortable solving “word problems” that require calculus.
The Class:
Format: lecture, three hours per week; laboratory, three hours every other week; conference section, one hour every other week
Limit: none
Expected: 50
Class#: 1219
Grading: yes pass/fail option, yes fifth course option

Requirements/Evaluation:
evaluation will be based on weekly problem sets, labs, 2 one-hour tests, and a final exam, all of which have a substantial quantitative component
Prerequisites:
high school physics and Mathematics 103 (or equivalent placement)
Unit Notes:
Physics 141 can lead to either Physics 132 (for students wanting a one-year survey of physics) or Physics 142 (for students considering a physics or astrophysics major)
