CSCI 14
Game Development Internship at EphSoft (January 3rd--February 2nd, 1986) Winter 2022

Class Details

EphSoft is hiring 20 interns to jump start its return to the video game marketplace! We hope to offer a fun but competitive environment, with top-performing interns being renewed, or offered full-time jobs, at the end of the month-long position. At EphSoft, every employee contributes to the game design and development process in their own way, and the most important qualification is enthusiasm. Specific skills are: Programming. Experience in BASIC or an assembly language is preferred. Other low-level languages like C and Forth are assets. Higher-level languages like FORTRAN, COBOL, and ALGOL may be beneficial. Graphics. Digital artists and painters for in-game graphics and box-art. Sound. Classic musical training and/or experience composing with square waves. Playtesting. Experienced video game players are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be able to consistently score 25,000+ in Pac-Man, or complete Super Mario Bros. Technical writing. Manuals and press releases. Physical media. Cassette duplication and EPROM burning. We currently have a number of games prototyped in the cross-platform environment Pico-8. To solidify our cash position, we are interested in quickly porting some of these games to contemporary video game and computer platforms, including the Commodore 64, Panasonic JR-200, Intellivision, and Famicom Data Recorder. For future growth, we continue to monitor the marketplace, and design and prototype new games. EphSoft was founded in 1981 in Williamstown, MA. It developed games for a variety of platforms until closing in March 1984 due to the collapse of the video game market. EphSoft is positioned to return to successful operations in early 1986.
