ENGL 395
ADVANCED WORKSHOP: THE ART OF THE PERSONAL ESSAY Spring 2025
Division I

Class Details

This is a course in which we will study the form of the personal essay, dividing our time between reading and interpretation of literature (nonfiction, fiction, and what falls between), and the creation and analysis of new work. These essays, both formal and informal, will be generated through structured in-class exercises and outside assignments. This is a course in which you will experiment with memory, ideas, and with narrative techniques of voice, structure, story, and metaphor.
